London Southend Airport

Stobart Group has so far invested in the region of £100 million private sector funds into London Southend Airport’s redevelopment, including an all-new air traffic control tower, railway station, runway extension, new terminal and hotel as major projects, with several smaller works continually taking place around the site such car parks, walkways, landscaping and much more.

The new railway station offers excellent links into the Stratford Olympic Park at Stratford in east London – home to Europe’s newest and largest urban shopping centre – Westfield Stratford City, and also into central London. Up to eight trains an hour travel into London from the airport, with the journey into Stratford taking 44 minutes, and into Liverpool St. Station in the heart of the City of London taking 53 minutes.

The result of this investment and development is massive growth in passenger numbers on scheduled flights, from 5,000 in 2009 to a predicted one million in 2012, and to two million by the end of the decade.

In March 2011, Aer Arann started operating two daily return flights between London Southend and Ireland, and from spring 2012 easyJet will commence 70 departures each week to Amsterdam, Alicante, Barcelona, Belfast, Faro, Ibiza, Jersey, Malaga and Mallorca. In May 2012 Aer Lingus Regional (operated by Aer Arann) will commence flights to Dublin which will allow connects to New York, Chicago, Boston and Orlando.
