2British holidaymakers have been flocking to Florida since the 1950’s after Walt Disney created his famous theme park in Orlando in 1955. It is easy to think that all there is to Florida is theme parks and plenty of sunshine, but in fact there is so much more that this stunning state has to offer than many first time visitors think.

When looking at holidays to Florida, location is all important so it is worthwhile doing some research before you book. Mere words can not describe adequately enough the sheer size of the Sunshine State and the location of the beaches in a popular misconception. If you want to be right in the thick of the action with easy access to the top theme parks such as Disney, Universal Studios etc then look for accommodation in or around Kissimmee, Lake Buena Vista and International Drive.

Those seeking a beach holiday, however, should be looking at the west coast peninsula and considering St Petersburg or Clearwater. These also offer easy access to attractions such as Busch Gardens in Tampa Bay and the Salvador Dali Museum. There are also great beaches on the east coast at Cocoa, Daytona and New Smyrna and from here you can visit the JF Kennedy Space Centre.

If you are looking for a touch of luxury on your Florida holiday then you may want to look at renting one of the stunning beach bungalows at Naples, or if you want to combine luxury with a vast choice of water sports then there is nowhere better than the Florida Keys, where you can take part on deep sea fishing or even swim with dolphins, a hugely popular attraction in this area.

Those who want a relaxing holiday in natural surroundings will love the Everglades National Park, which is a self contained holiday in itself. There are literally thousands of square miles of tropical wilderness waiting to be explored, and this is the only place on earth you can see alligators and crocodiles sharing the same natural habitat. You may even glimpse the famous yet enigmatic Florida Panther, but even if you don’t there are hundreds of species of beautiful birds and insects to enjoy.

Even though one of the most popular internet search terms is holidays to Orlando, as you can see there is an awful lot more on offer. Having said that, when you consider what Orlando has to offer to holidaymakers of all ages, is it not hard to see why the visitor numbers keep increasing, despite an almost global recession. The sheer size of the place means that you can go there several times, never leave the city limits, and still not see or do everything.

Several times voted the best holiday destination in the world, and boasting accommodation to suit all pockets, it is hard to imagine that anywhere is going to take Orlando’s crown any time soon. They aren’t resting on their laurels either, with new attractions appearing every year, ensuring that visitors will return here time and time again.
