Magaluf

Magaluf is one of the two largest resort developments on the south west coast of Majorca, it lies at the western end of Palma bay, and is approximately 15 kilometres from Palma.  Because of its location and closeness to Palma it makes it very easy for people staying in Magaluf to travel to Palma for the day for shopping, or sightseeing, and busses run well into the evening and are quite frequent.

The resort at Magaluf is made up of three main beaches each of which is lined with small bars, and shops, and they are all very popular for their beautiful white sands.  Although Magaluf became well known in the 1980’s for its 18-30 group of holiday makers, it is also popular with families and older couples too, and in the 1990’s the town was cleaned up and made much more family friendly, although for those wanting a quiet resort this may not be the place to look.

For people who like to be active, there is plenty to do here, in the daytime, there are many water sporting activities to try out including scuba diving, jet skiing and windsurfing, as well as glass bottom boat trips where you can enjoy the experience of seeing deep into the clear waters surrounding this beautiful island and see some of the many fish and other sea creatures which live here.  And, for the real swimmers amongst you, a 400 metre swim out to Isla de sa Porrassa (Black Lizzard Island) in the centre of Magaluf bay is an exciting challenge.  There are many shops, bars and restaurants, and unlike some resorts on the island, there are many familiar fast food outlets here as well as much in the way of traditional cafés and restaurants.  At night, the area is very lively and there are many pubs, clubs and discos where you can party till dawn in the summer months.

As well as nightclubs, bars, and water sports, there is a wealth of other activities that you can indulge in here, from go kart racing, to horseback riding, and many of the hotels have more family friendly dinner shows and cabarets.  The house of Katmandu is worth a visit if only to see this extraordinary upside down Tibetan style mansion, but inside you’ll find a whole lot more to entertain you from the Library of Illusions, to the Genetics Lab and the Cave of Shivers!

Magaluf is definitely a resort with a lot going on, and if your idea of heaven is beautiful beaches and loads to do, then this is the place for you.
